After I received my Masters degree, I remained for a few years at Northwestern and completed all of the required course work for a Ph.D. My area of focus was French music during the mid-19th century. In particular the conservative Parisian music critic Paul Scudo and his adversarial relationship with the composers Hector Berlioz and Richard Wagner.

Time line of my very diverse musical life:

6th Grade – Began music lessons on a Conn “Minuet” electronic organ.

8th Grade – Played first church service on a Pipe Organ and began my 24-year long career as a Pastoral Musician.

1960sDirected my first Children’s Choir; played “pep” organ at high-school basketball games; inspired by the Beatles, I taught myself to play the guitar and formed a garage band: the TIKIS; by initiating a student petition, I helped establish Jazz as part of the curriculum at the DePaul University School of Music making it one of the first music schools in America to accept a non-Classical genre as part of its course of study.

1970sGraduated from DePaul University and Northwestern University; began my 35-year long career as a Music Teacher; wrote music criticism and record reviews for Daily Northwestern and Chicago Daily News.

1980sStudied piano for several years with Edward Mondello, principal keyboardist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra;sold pianos at Hendricks Music; became a Keyboard Editor at Hal Leonard Publishing in Milwaukee, the world’s largest publisher of printed music.

1990sResumed teaching career in Madison Metropolitan School District and eventually worked for 15 years as a Music Teacher in the Hartland/Lakeside School District.

2000s – Solo/Ensemble Adjudicator for Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA); Special training in Reston, VA on Yamaha’s Music in Education (MIE) keyboard lab.

2010sRetirement from full-time teaching in the Hartland/Lakeside School District and launch of the Studio of Musical Arts, LLC. Resumed performing career playing piano for Weddings, Funerals, Memorial Services and Parties in Wisconsin and Illinois. Began playing piano at the Mayfair Mall Food Court every Monday and Thursday from noon until about 2:00 p.m.
